Designer (Advertising)

Job specification

TRMG Ltd, a specialist publisher of magazines, event programmes and show guides currently have a very exciting vacancy for a Designer to produce adverts as part of our Reprographics team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone to take a creative role in a fast-paced publishing environment.

The successful candidate will have excellent Mac skills including: Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and good knowledge of pre-press production including the creation of high-resolution PDFs. Knowledge of using databases is an advantage but not essential as training will be given. They must be extremely organised, and ideally come from a design or reprographics background. The ability to work to tight deadlines and to keep calm under pressure is desirable.


  • Create high-quality and creative advertising content
  • Work from client supplied copy and design briefs
  • Adhere to brand guidelines where required
  • Check supplied finished artwork PDFs for quality and pre-press criteria
  • Create high-resolution PDFs for press
  • Upload PDFs to printers' pre-press systems
  • Manage artwork folders on shared production servers
  • Work closely with Advertising Production & Project Management teams
  • Create A-Z indexes using scripts from supplied data
  • Archive finished artwork when publication completed.

Skills required 

  • Excellent design software knowledge: Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat
  • Good understand of the litho print process and pre-press
  • Organisational skills
  • An appreciation of typography and font management
  • High attention to detail
  • Good grasp of written English

Previous design experience preferable and a Degree level or relevant qualification desirable.

A-Z co-ordinator

Job specification

TRMG produce many high-profile event guides throughout the year and a key part of each of these publications is the Exhibitor A-Z which lists every stand holder at the event. Exhibitor A-Z listings are a valuable visitor tool and also a commercial opportunity as all exhibitors are invited to upgrade their content.

It is the responsibility of the A-Z co-ordinator role to take ownership of the Exhibitor data within each publication, manage change requests from exhibitors and show organisers, manage upgraded content ensuring that invoices and payments have been properly recorded and seek client approval on all pages before finally sending completed pages to press. 


  • Liaise with clients to set up initial A-Z forms and online data-collection.
  • Set and maintain production schedules for A-Zs.
  • Source exhibitor list and circulate internally.
  • Add / amend new data to databases, check for errors and omissions.
  • Send proofs to clients, manage proofing process, subsequent amends and approvals of all entries.
  • Monitor and catalogue all supplied A-Z content.
  • Proof final A-Z documents to clients, amend and update and deliver to pre-press within schedule.
  • Record all correspondence with exhibitors and clients for archiving.

Desirable skills 

  • Excellent communication – verbal and written
  • Strong confident telephone manner
  • Organisational / clerical / meticulous approach
  • Good knowledge of data handling within Microsoft Excel
  • Working knowledge / understanding of database technology (Filemaker preferred)
  • Sound IT skills – email / word processing / data management / online data capture
